Recently at the 2023 Auto Expo India’s favourite automaker showcased its new range of upcoming SUVs. Unlike other major car manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki is showing hesitance to launch new electric vehicles until 2025. Besides Maruti Suzuki has promising volume sellers lined up as there are 3 new ready-to-launch SUVs. The Indian market has a high demand for frugal vehicles which is a Maruti forte, and current trends escalated SUV sales in large numbers. Hence the company is set in the right direction in our opinion. All the 3 upcoming Maruti Suzuki SUVs are ready to go on sale by mid-2023.
- Maruti Suzuki Jimny
- Maruti Suzuki Fronx
- Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
1. Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Globally Maruti had 3 door version of Jimny for a few years now and it was manufactured as a CKD at the Gurgaon facility. Finally, India is to get its Jimny in a 5-door form which the company thinks is more practical for our market. However, the global debut of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door car grabbed all the attention at the Auto Expo. The bookings already started last month for Rs 25,000 and currently stands at 6 months waiting period.
This compact Ladder Frame Off-road SUV will be powered by a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, K15B petrol engine. Which puts out 103BHP of peak power and 134.2NM of torque. It can be either mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Jimny will come in four variants across two trims of Zeta and Alpha through Nexa showrooms. The SUV will also offer Maruti Suzuki’s AllGrip pro-4WD with a manual transfer case and low-range gear, hence this SUV can take you to your weekend off-road wilderness with ease. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 4×4 SUV is expected to go on sale by May 2023 in India.

2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Fronx is a name that we all may have not heard yet (naam toh suna hoga? Nahi) but still will be another home run from the brand. It is a Baleno-based crossover and a baby Grand Vitara with its distinctive nose. Fronx will be powered with two engine options – a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and a peppier 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo Boosterjet petrol. Both engine options can be mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission. It will then be the first turbo petrol from the brand after the shortlived Baleno RS.
Recently it is also spied with an emission testing kit and leaks suggesting a CNG option even though no official word on this from the manufacturer. Meanwhile, Fronx will cater to buyers with plush interiors and new-age Maruti features like a heads-up display, wireless charger, 360-degree camera, connected car tech, smart hybrid, six-speaker audio system, and a lot more. Fronx will be offered in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trim variants all over the Nexa showrooms. Market launch is expected soon in the coming weeks.

3. Maruti Brezza CNG
Already loved Maruti Suzuki Brezza was also present at the Auto Expo stall but with a twist. Maruti is planning to launch their popular compact SUV with a new CNG option, which is only going to exponentiate its popularity on Indian roads and might take back its crown as the most selling sub-compact SUV.
The heart of the SUV still will be a 1.5L 4-cylinder K15C but with a factory-fitted CNG kit. While accommodating CNG the Brezza will put out 88PS and 121.5NM of torque which is lesser than the ongoing petrol model. The manufacturer claims an attractive mileage of 27km/kg and there are even hopes for an automatic transmission with Brezza CNG. The rest of the car will remain unchanged and is expected to be launched in Delta and Zeta variants very soon.
